DECIDED — IAN, 2026-07-03 (label finalized later same day)
Option B adopted — paths by intent, EEG as a layer. Final naming:
Deep Work (use your attention — Steady → +Receipts → Adaptive) and
Attention Training (grow it — Silent → Entrainment audio → +Tracking → Neurofeedback).
Label: Ian first kept "Brain Training" (meditation falls under attention training — workshop framing: directing your attention is the practice; tech accelerates it), then finalized "Attention Training" — same logic, without the Lumosity-era scar tissue and puzzle-game association. The old dishonesty was the EEG gate, not the word, and the gate is gone. The EEG-driven mode is called Neurofeedback (parallel to Adaptive in Deep Work).
Rejected labels: Brain Training (scar tissue), Mental Fitness (vague, Calm owns it), Meditate (undersells the differentiator). Silent focus timer joins Deep Work's
"none" level in the IA; build is post-V1. Open consideration: per-feature soundscape catalogs (e.g. different
soundscapes for Neurofeedback) — parked, not decided.
Path architecture — the options (kept for team discussion)
Second Attention must be a Brain.fm (focus audio while you work) and a
Myndlift/Muse (neurofeedback training) and hold up standalone like Insight Timer
(silent meditation, zero hardware). The question is what the top-level paths are and where EEG lives.
Three honest ways to slice it:
EEG levels:
NO EEG works with nothing
EEG TRACKS worn = passive recording & receipts
EEG DRIVES closed loop — audio responds to brain
A · Paths by technology (current kit)
Deep Work is EEG-optional; Brain Training is EEG-required.
Deep Work
audio while you work
Steady phased audio NO EEG
Adaptive audio EEG DRIVES
Brain Training
neurofeedback sessions
Neurofeedback protocols EEG DRIVES
✗ Homeless: silent meditation, and today's real catalog —
entrainment meditations with no neurofeedback (all 5 live sessions). They're not "work audio" and
they're not EEG-required. ✗ One path is defined by what you own, not what you're doing.
B · Paths by intent, EEG as a layer RECOMMENDED
Two verbs: what are you doing right now? Working (audio in the background,
attention on your work) or meditating (the session is the activity). EEG upgrades either
path — it is never a path itself. "Brain Training" survives as the name of the EEG-driven mode inside Meditate.
Deep Work
Brain.fm function — audio while you work
Focus timer, no audio post-V1 NO EEG
Steady phased audio NO EEG
Steady + session receipts EEG TRACKS

Attention Training
Insight Timer + Myndlift functions — the session is the activity (subtitle: Meditation)
Silent (timer only) NO EEG
Entrainment audio meditation NO EEG
Silent / audio + brain tracking EEG TRACKS
Neurofeedback — audio responds to your brain EEG DRIVES
✓ Every real thing the app does today has one honest home
(Silent Session → Attention Training·Silent; the 5 live entrainment meditations → Attention Training·audio; NF protocols →
Attention Training·Neurofeedback). ✓ Standalone-first holds on BOTH paths.
✓ The shipped Neurofeedback On/Off toggle already IS this model.
✓ One pitch: "two ways to use it, headband makes both smarter."
C · Three paths — keep Brain Training top-level
Deep Work / Meditate / Brain Training. Brain Training becomes a structured
program product (Myndlift-style multi-week protocols), distinct from one-off meditations.

Steady NO EEG
Adaptive EEG DRIVES
Meditate

Silent / entrainment audio NO EEG

✓ Marquee differentiator stays on the home screen.
✗ Three-way choice raises cognitive load at the front door; Meditate vs Brain
Training overlap confuses (Quiet Mind is both). ✗ Only earns its keep once Brain
Training is genuinely program-based — a V2 evolution, not a V1 structure.
Decision: B now, with a C-shaped future (see banner above). Ship two intent paths — Deep Work and
Meditate — with EEG as the horizontal upgrade (none → tracks → drives) on both. "Brain Training"
remains the user-facing label of the EEG-driven mode inside Meditate, so the differentiator keeps its name
without gating a whole path on hardware. If/when training becomes structured multi-week programs, promote
it to a third path (Option C) — the IA absorbs that without renaming anything.
